Useful tips: the best neighborhoods to stay in Verona

//wheretosleepinverona Foto di Wheresleep.

Target Area Rates from
Stay on a Budget Borgo Trento €60,00
Valdonega €60,00
Families San Zeno €65,00
Old Town €70,00
Cittadella €65,00
Young Veronetta €65,00

Although it is more expensive, the historic center remains the most convenient choice due to its proximity to the main attractions. Neighborhoods such as San Zeno, Borgo Treno and Valdonega are slightly off-center (but the center is still within walking distance) but have less expensive accommodation and more parking space.
These areas are also very quiet and peaceful in the evening, so they are ideal for those traveling with children. However, if you want to enjoy an aperitif in the center or a special evening, a 10/15 minute walk is enough to be catapulted into the nightlife.

Old Town, best for culture and art

arena verona piazza bra italia 2

  • Pros: Heart of the action, steps from major landmarks, vibrant dining and shopping.
  • Cons: Crowded during peak seasons, higher prices.
  • Main attractions: Piazza delle Erbe, Arena di Verona, Juliet’s Balcony.
  • Average prices: from €70,00 per night - find top stays on Booking

It is the best place to stay for those who want to be close to major attractions such as the Verona Arena, the Lamberti Tower and Juliet's House. Piazza Bra, Piazza dei Signori, Piazza delle Erbe, the Roman Theater and Castel San Pietro, with its splendid viewpoint, can also be easily reached on foot.

The district corresponds to that enclosed between the Roman walls, Piazza Brà, and the Adige. The "Città Vecchia", also called the Ancient City, guarantees the charm of being in the heart of the city, moving comfortably on foot between shopping streets, lively squares full of cafes and restaurants, markets and historic churches.
It goes without saying, accommodation in this area is quite expensive, although there is a wide selection of offers with historic hotels, hostels, bed & breakfasts and apartments to suit all budgets. Another flaw that it has in common with quite all cities, is the difficulty in finding a parking spot. It is therefore preferable to choose this district if you arrive by train.

Cittadella is the district that leads from the railway station of Verona Porta Nuova to Piazza Bra, where the aforementioned district of Città Antica begins. It is a quiet area with all services, therefore ideal for families or for those who want to stay in the immediate vicinity of the historic center without spending too much. Staying in the Citadella, you can in fact easily reach the station for a few trips out of town, or reach the Ancient City on foot (Porta Nuova is 1km away from Piazza Bra, 13 minutes). Furthermore, in this area there is also the Museum of frescoes called "G.B. Cavalcaselle alla tomba di Giulietta".

It only takes 15 minutes to walk to Piazza Bra or, alternatively, several bus lines are available to get closer to the historic center in a more comfortable way. It is a very quiet area with every service, perfect for those traveling with children. In the San Zeno district there is a medieval and historical atmosphere that makes the stay even more pleasant for those who prefer to surround themselves with the charm of the past, accentuated by the antique markets and vintage items that are set up every Sunday in the main square of the neighborhood. San Zeno is to be preferred to the city center certainly because of parking, much easier to find next to the accommodation.

It is a neighborhood adjacent to the center and is mainly residential. Here, you will also find attractions such as the Alessandro Canestrari Public Gardens and the Franz Josef I Arsenal. From the latter, to get to the historic center, just cross the Ponte della Vittoria (750 m or 9 min from Porta Bosari ). Instead, crossing the Castelvecchio Bridge, you will quickly arrive at the Castelvecchio Museum (300 m, 4 min).

Borgo Trento offers various accommodation solutions at lower prices than the city center and with greater ease of parking. Keep in mind, however, that in the evening it is a very quiet area that does not offer many fun opportunities.

Valdonega is a quiet and residential area with many green areas, such as the Colombare Park or the Dog Park in Zenari street. It is located north of the historic center and stretches on a hill which offers beautiful views over the city such as Castel San Pietro. Also from here the center can be reached with a nice walk crossing the famous Ponte Pietra (from the Colombare Park only 1 km, 13 min).

As for Borgo Trento, Valdonega offers many accommodation solutions at lower prices than the city center and with greater ease of parking. Keep in mind, however, that in the evening they are very quiet areas that do not offer many fun opportunities.
